New Theme: Public Lands, Public Voices
Public Lands, Public Voices is a digital storytelling contest for students in grades 6-12 (3 groups: grades 6-8, 9-10, 11-12) sponsored by KQED. These autobiographical digital pieces tell the story of connection to an outdoor space. With our emphasis on place, and the newest Ken Burns series, National Parks: America's Best Idea airing in the Fall of 2009, we are taking this opportunity to align our digital storytelling work and our digital storytelling contest and festival with this series.Through the contest, students become producers of media, not just consumers, building an understanding of media literacy through authentic learning. The contest culminates in an celebration and awards ceremony at KQED, honoring the efforts of the participants and celebrating the winning pieces. Winning pieces also have the opportunity to be posted on the website and available for downloading. This year we hope to be able to broadcast some of the stories on our digital channel.
This year's contest due date has also changed. Entries are due Sept 08.
